The first USA cent was produced in 1787, and has been the lowest face-value of physical currency since the half cent was abolished in 1857. The "Head of 1836" variety features the 1836 version of the head of Liberty. The 1836 has a longer jaw line and the position of the neck is placed further back. The hairline is also positioned futher back relative to where it intersects the "Liberty" crown.
