These tokens are believed to portray Col. Charles Michel d'Irumberry de Salaberry, who repelled the Americans at Chateauguay and Crysler's Farm during the War of 1812, saving Montreal from the fate of York in Upper Canada. The clothing of the bust resembles that seen in a well-known painting of de Salaberry. In the LC-53A1 variety, the sleeve is open.
