During the Penisular Campaign of the Napoleonic War, a series of copper tokens appeared in Yorkshire to remedy a shortage of copper. , which showed a bust of the Duke of Wellington. After becoming too plentiful, the tokens were removed from circulation, and some pieces were later brought to the Canadian colonies. The Wellington half pennies circulated mostly in Lower Canada, but a small number found their way into Upper Canada. These tokens were struck in New York State, USA, and imported into Upper Canada through Kingston, ON.

Obverse: Bust of the Duke of Wellington facing left, with "The Illustrious Wellington" around. The wreath on his head has two upper leaves.
Reverse: A harp in the centre, surrounded by the legend "Waterloo Halfpenny". The harp has eight strings.
