After 1830, Daniel and Benjamin True of Troy, New York, struck a number of Hard Times tokens, and in about 1835, they began to product lighweight tokens for export into Canada. This included one of the more commonly found "Blacksmith" tokens. The heaviest specimens were struck with fresh dies, resulting in full detail, while later specimens were struck from well worn dies, which resulted in pieces that were light in weight, and had weak details. The reverse die was often touched up, producing many variations.
