The Upper Canada Preserved medal was struck by the Loyal and Patriotic Society of Upper Canada for "extraordinary instances of personal courage and fidelity in defence of the Province" during the War of 1812. The medal depicts the British lion protecting the Canadian beaver from a hovering American eagle. Flowing between them is the Niagara River. The medal was never awarded because the war ended and the list of those entitled to receive it turned out to be too long for the society's limited budget.
