BC-29b 1954 Canada $1 Beattie-Coyne, Devil's Face, M/A, VF-EF

Due to the sudden death of King George VI in 1952, The Bank of Canada prepared the Canadian Landscape Series to be released in 1954. Unlike the design of its predecessors, the 1954 issued notes featured Queen Elizabeth II on the right side of the note - a tactical way to prevent folding in the center of the note. Additionally, the reverse of the note was now replaced with various landscapes around Canada.

As for printing, the $1, $,5, $20, $50, $100 and $1000 notes were produced by the Canadian Bank Note Company; whereas, the $1, $2, $5, and $10 notes were produced by the British American Bank Note Company.

Special Features
A highly sought after variety found in the 1954 Canadian Landscape Series is the infamous Devil's Face variety. Due to an innocent mistake by the engraver, the first versions of the 1954 notes contained the illusion of a "Devil's face" within Queen Elizabeth's hair. Although not an intentional mistake, it drew much controversy and later was modified by darkening the highlights in the Queen's hair.
