Ancient Rome 161-180AD Marcus Aurelius Silver Denarius, Felicitas Reverse, VF-EF (VF-30)

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121–180 AD) was Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD and is best known as one of the "Five Good Emperors." A philosopher-king, he is celebrated for his Stoic philosophy, which he famously documented in his work Meditations. His reign was marked by military conflicts, including wars on the Danube and with the Parthian Empire. Despite the pressures of warfare, Marcus Aurelius sought to govern with wisdom, justice, and compassion, emphasizing duty and moral integrity. His rule, along with his intellectual legacy, has made him one of Rome’s most revered emperors.

Obverse: Laureate head of Marcus Aurelius facing right.
Reverse: Felicitas, draped, standing facing the front with her head turned to the left, holding a patera in her right hand and a caduceus in her left hand.
