Born Titus Flavius Vespasianus, Vespasian was a Roman emperor from 69 to 79AD. As the last emperor to reign in the Year of the Four Emperors, he founded the Flavian Dynasty, which ruled the Roman Empire for 27 years. After his death in 79AD, he was succeeded by his eldest son Titus, thus becoming the first Roman emperor to be succeeded by his natural son.
Obverse: Laureate head of Emperor Vespasian facing right, accompanied by inscriptions denoting his titles and honours.
Reverse: Pax (the Roman goddess of Peace) draped and seated facing left on a throne, holding a branch in her extended right hand, and resting her left in her lap.
