Canada’s Gold Maple Leaf (GML) bullion coin has a history of setting new purity standards for gold bullion coins. Initially launched as a .999 fine gold coin in 1979, the GML became the world’s first 99.99% pure gold bullion coin just three years later, in 1982, and the Royal Canadian Mint’s very first 99.999% pure gold bullion coin was introduced in 2007.

The coin’s reverse features Walter Ott’s now-iconic Gold Maple Leaf (GML) bullion design set against radial lines that fill the inner portion, creating a dramatic sunburst finish behind the maple leaf. Along with the word “CANADA”, the coin’s purity and weight are inscribed along the outer edge. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
