2023 King Charles III Canada 50-cents Brilliant Uncirculated (MS-63)
These coins are among the first 2023-dated circulation coins struck at the Royal Canadian Mint’s Winnipeg facility, and this 50-cent coin holds the distinction of being the first of its kind to feature the new Canadian effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.
In keeping with tradition, His Majesty King Charles III’s profile faces left on each coin’s obverse—this is the opposite direction in which the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was depicted during her reign.
The 50-cent coin's classic Arms of Canada design was last updated 25 years ago. Canada's Coat of Arms was modified in 1994 to include the motto of the Order of Canada, Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam (Latin for "they desire a better country"); the motto was also added to the 50-cent coin's version of the Arms, and the first pieces to include this new addition were struck in 1997.
Specifications:
Composition: Three-ply brass finish plated steel
Weight: 6.9 g
Diameter: 27.13 mm
Edge: Reeded
Finish: Brilliant Uncirculated
Artist: Cathy Bursey-Sabourin (reverse), Steven Rosati (obverse)
