2023 Canada Collector's Edition 50-cent Brilliant Uncirculated (MS-63)
The 50-cent coin's classic Arms of Canada design was last updated 25 years ago. Canada's Coat of Arms was modified in 1994 to include the motto of the Order of Canada, Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam (Latin for "they desire a better country"); the motto was also added to the 50-cent coin's version of the Arms, and the first pieces to include this new addition were struck in 1997.
The 2023-dated 50-cent non-circulation coins feature Canada's Coat of Arms, which was adopted by proclamation of King George V in 1921 and first appeared on the 50-cent piece in 1937. Each coin's obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The obverse also bears a special marking that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have graced Canadian coins and the double date of her reign.
