April 1, 1999 is an important date for Canada because it was the time the country's latest territory, Nunavut came into existence. And to celebrate this momentous event, the Mint brought back the design that graced their $2 circulation coin in 1999.
The 2019 $20 20th Anniversary of Nunavut Pure Gold Coin's design is created by Inuk artist Germaine Arnaktauyok and it bares an Inuk drum dancer carrying an outline map of Nunavut.

• Classic design, new coin size. Following in the footsteps of another Arctic-themed coin, the 2018 Symbols of the North, this is only the second coin to be struck on an innovative thin blank. You get the gold content of a 1/10 oz. gold coin, but with a 25% larger diameter.
