2013 Canada Blue Winged Teal Specimen Set
The reverse image on the unique Canadian 1-dollar coin included in this set features Canadian artist Glen Loates depiction of a Blue-Winged Teal perched on a tree bough at the edge of a marsh or pond.
The Teal, engraved in exquisite detail, is viewed from the side with its head turned in three-quarter profile toward the viewer. Its diversely patterned feathers, webbed foot, and gently rounded bill are rendered in dimensional detail through fine engraving.
The Teal occupies the central portion of the reverse field and perches upon a tree limb or bough protruding from a body of water. Behind the duck we see fine blades of wispy marsh grass. As with all Canadian 'loonies,' this coin features an 11-sided shape and raised edging. The reverse is engraved with the words 'CANADA' and 'DOLLAR' and the date '2013.'
