2012 Canada $200 The Vikings 24K Pure Gold Coin (TAX Exempt)
From 2012 to 2017, a new Great Explorers coin will be released each year until Canada's 2017 Sesquicentennial
• Hand Polished! The field (flat background) has a highly hand polished mirror-like finish
About the Design:
Your coin depicts Norse explorers, with their sailing vessel anchored offshore, landing for the first time on the shores of the New World. Accurately drawn from Vikings characteristics of that time, the ship, clothes, weapons, and utilities reflect historical characteristics. Contemporary accounts suggest it was a Norse merchant who first spotted the shores of New World in the late tenth century. In 1960, archaeologists unearthed a small Viking camp in Newfoundland's L'Anse aux Meadows, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
