2011 Canada 50-cent Canada Geese 1/25oz. Fine Gold Coin (TAX Exempt)

This 8th issue of the Mint's smallest pure gold coin features a flock of Canada Geese arguably the most widely known goose species in North America. Its black head and neck with white "chinstrap" distinguish it from most other goose species and its distinctive honking call is a true sign of spring and autumn for those living under their migratory flight-path.

The Great Lakes region maintains a very large population of Canada Geese. With nests typically located in elevated areas near streams, lakes and ponds, these birds are known to mate for life while also keeping their young for several months after hatching.

Males are generally larger than females ranging from 76 to 110 cm (30 to 43 in.) long with a wingspan reaching 127 to 170 cm (50 to 67 in.).
