The Canadian Coat of Arms is a heraldic art that was officially declared by King George V in 1921. The Arms first appeared on the 50-cent coin in 1937.
Today, it's symbol that preserves traditions and inspires love of country. A new ribbon was added around the shield. Its inscription Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam (They desire a better country) is from the Order of Canada.
