2006 Canada $30 National War Memorial Sterling Silver Coin
As is typical of coins from this year, the outer cardboard sleeve might have some light wear.
The National War Memorial which was first erected in the aftermath of the First World War, stands today as a tribute to all who have served in the past, present and future. The people's willingness to act is expressed in the army of bronze figures that moves through an archway high above the granite terrace below. There is a look of eagerness and sincerity on their faces. Above them stand Peace and Freedom - the promise of what will follow after the great sacrifices that would be made by the people below them. There are 22 bronze figures in the procession, each one 2.44 m (8 ft) tall.
The equipment they carry, the uniforms they wear are historically accurate. Every branch that served during the First World War is represented with a tedious attention to detail. Three of those magnificent figures are faithfully reproduced with superior relief on this 2006 $30 Sterling Silver Coin. Arching over their heads are the words, "THEY GAVE THEIR YOUTH," poignant words that are found at the site and truly express the great sacrifice they made on our behalf.
