2000 Community - December Commemorative 25-cent Quarter Original Roll
Open to all Canadians, The Royal Canadian Mint held a contest in which contestants were asked to submit designs for 24 millennium 25-cent coins, one for each month of the year from 1999 to 2000. The coins for the 1999 year were meant to reflect on the country’s past while the 2000 designs looked to the future. The design chosen for the 25-Cent Community Coins was created by Michelle Thibodeau. It features the earth, surrounded by homes, trees and other elements of community, encircled by the bilingual inscriptions "CANADA" and "COMMUNITY 2000 COMMUNAUTÉ". This design is complimented on the obverse side by an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which was created by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. Each roll contains 40 Royal Canadian Mint issued 25-cent coins for circulation.
