2000 Commemorating the Birth of the First 5-pin Bowling League

The fourth coin in the four-coin series, commemorating the Birth of the First 5-pin Bowling League. This coin comes in original packaging from the Royal Canadian Mint.

In 1910, the world's first 5-pin bowling league was established at Thomas F. Ryan's Toronto Bowling Club. In these first few years, this variation of the sport went through a few minor changes. One of the most prominent involved the five pins. When the sport first started, the pins were very light, which meant they were thrown through the air following contact with the ball. By 1912, the problem was fixed by adding a rubber band to the pins. Commemorate this iconic sports development with this Canada 50-cent First 5-pin Bowling League Sterling Silver Coin. Released in 2000, it is made of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. The reverse design contains an image by Brian Hughes depicting a bowling league in action. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed and engraved by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. If you've a love for sport, this coin will bowl you over.
