Open to all Canadians, The Royal Canadian Mint held a contest in which contestants were asked to submit designs for 24 millennium 25-cent coins, one for each month of the year from 1999 to 2000. The coins for the 1999 year were meant to reflect on the country’s past while the 2000 designs looked to the future. This is Canada December Millennium Quarter features 13 gear teeth on a wheel representing the 13 provinces. Symbol celebrates Canada's rich variety – wheat fields, forests, mountains, native dwellings, and cities. Each roll contains 40 Royal Canadian Mint issued 25-cent coins for circulation.
