In 1997, the two dollar coin was added to the Specimen Set, raising the number of coins from six to seven. Set comes in blue leatherette case.

In 1997, the Royal Canadian Mint released a Canada Specimen Coin Set which is the first time the $2 Polar Bear coin was included. The specimen set also comes with a specially struck Flying Loon design to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the first dollar issue in 1987. The specimen set also comes with an elegant Royal Canadian Mint wallet-style case and certificate of authenticity.
