It should be noted that the unique sound of the loon is symbolic of Canada's North. The images of this coin are collaboratively performed by the following artists: Jean-Luc Grondin, Sheldon Beveridge, and Dora de Pédery-Hunt.

The Flying Loon one dollar coin was issued only in the "Oh Canada!" and Specimen sets of 1997. The sterling silver Flying Loon was issued singly.
