1996 Silver Piedfort $2 and paper money set
Blue leatherette presentation case, black insert, encapsulated coin, COA (the $2 coin may be lightly toned, which is typical)
The origin of the piedfort can be traced all the way to the 12th century. It was first minted as patterns in medieval Britain and France where they played a key role in standardizing coinage. Also, they were used by French kings as presentation pieces. Celebrate the history of the piedfort with this 1996 Proof Silver $2 Piedfort Coin included in this set. This is the first time that the Mint issued a piedfort and it comes with the $2 polar bear design of Brent Townsend on the reverse and an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pedery-Hunt on the obverse.
The set also contains two uncut BRX $2 bank notes which are part of the fifth series of notes issued by the Bank of Canada in 1986 featuring the theme of Canadian birds. These uncirculated replacement notes bear the signatures of Mr. Gordon Thiessen and Mr. Bernard Bonin, Governor and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada.
