Issued to commemorate the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Hudson's Bay Company. From 1670 to the current day, the history of the Hudson's Bay Company has been intertwined with Canada.
This 1995 Hudson's Bay Company Sterling Silver Dollar was issued to commemorate the 325th anniversary of the establishment of the Hudson's Bay Company. The Canadian department store has a rich history which began in England with Medard Chouart and Pierre-Esprit Radisson who led a trading expedition from England to the New World via Hudson Bay in 1668.
The design on the reverse of the coin was created by Canadian artist Vincent McIndoe and it depicts the aforementioned explorers with the ship Nonsuch, the vessel that brought the traders to the shores of Hudson Bay, and Charles Fort, the original trading post. This beautiful sterling silver dollar coin portrays an important part of Canadian history and would be a great addition to any collection.
