The 1990 $200 coin commemorates the 25th anniversary of the proclamation approving Canada's flag.
In 1964, an all-party, a special committee of 15 members was appointed by then Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson to create a new Canadian flag. The design came with a red maple leaf, one of the most recognized symbol of Canada. It came on a white background that's flanked by two red bars. Red and white were the approved national colours by the royal proclamation, which in the process, granted Canada's Coat of Arms in 1921.
