This 1990 Lancaster Bomber $20 coin belongs to the first group of 10 coins released in this series. That group of coins commemorates the first 50 years of powered flight in Canada. Each coin commemorates an aviation hero and his achievements. The coins are sterling silver and have a 24 karat gold covered cameo portrait of an aviation hero. This coin is the second coin in the series and features the Avro Lancaster bomber.
The Avro Lancaster was an incredibly important component of the Allied attack on Europe as it was used very successfully as a heavy night bomber.
