1952 Low Relief Canada 25-cents Circulated
Following the arrival of the master tools with the new obverse legend lacking "ET IND: IMP" in 1948, the production of the 1947 Maple Leaf coinage was terminated. For the remainder of the year, coins were produced with the new obverse and the true date. In an attempt to improve the appearance of the obverse of this denomination, a fresh reduction was made to produce an obverse with a slightly larger, lower relief portrait. Both varieties were struck in 1951 & 1952. Aside from the difference in relief and the size of the portrait, the two varieties can be distinguished by the lettering: the High Relief Variety has a plain lettering style in the legend, and both "A's" in "GRATIA" point to a large rim denticle, while the Low Relief Variety, the letters are more flared, and both the "A's" in "GRATIA" point between small rim denticles.
