In 1871, Prince Edward Island adopted a decimal currency system, though the only coinage offered in this new system was a bronze cents.
Reverse: The seal of Prince Edward Island, which presents a large oak tree (representing England) that is sheltering three small oak trees, which represents the three counties on the island, with the latin phrase "PARVA SUB INGENTI" (The small beneath the great) below the seal, with the legend and denomination around.
