2019 Canada $1 Renewed Silver Dollar: Peacekeeping (Tax Exempt)
The fifth coin in the Mint's exclusive Masters Club series of historic proof dollar designs! This striking design, originally released in 1995, presents the Peacekeeping Monument to commemorate Canadian peacekeepers. Present at the inception of the United Nations mandate for official military peacekeeping interventions, Canada played a key role in one of the UN Emergency Force’s first interventions: the 1956 Suez crisis in Egypt. This contribution not only earned Canadian Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson the Nobel Peace Prize but was also a pivotal moment in Canadians’ understanding of their nation’s place on the world stage.
The reverse of this Peacekeeping Dollar depicts the design from the 1995 Canadian $1 circulation coin featuring the Peacekeeping Monument in Ottawa, Ontario. The figure in the middle is plated in gold. The obverse illustrates an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in gold plating, designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt.
